I have an iPod Classic (Figure 1) which on occasion freezes. Recycling the power switch on the top does no good. If this happens to you, here a procedure that will unfreeze your iPod Classic. Don't worry, you will not lose any music, videos, or anything else you have on your iPod.

Refer to Figure 2 below for the location of the two keys you will have to press to unfreeze your iPod Classic.
Step 1. Toggle the Hold Switch on and off several times. Return it to the Off position.
Step 2. Press and hold at the same time, the Menu and Center buttons until the Apple logo appears on the iPod display. The apple logo should appear anywhere from 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.

- If you are still experiencing a problem resetting your iPod Classic, set it on a flat surface. Make sure the finger pressing the Center button is not touching any part of the Click Wheel. Also be sure that you are pressing the Menu button towards the outside of the click wheel, not near the center.
- If the above mentioned steps do not work, then try connecting your iPod Classic to its power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect the iPod to your computer via the USB cable. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn’t set to go to sleep.
The above procedures work 95% percent of the time. If not, then you may have a defective device. Don't get mad. Set your device down and come back later and try the above procedures again. After you have tried unsuccessfully, let a friend or relative give it a try; especially if you have very large fingers.
A friend of mine was going to actually toss his iPod after several unsuccessful attempts. I tried the two step procedure on the first try and unfroze it for him.
